DO YOU HAVE SUPERPOWERS OR EXTRAORDINARY SKILLS?
What first makes a superhero is his or her superpowers and extraordinary skills. Do you fly, or able to zap a person into a million atomic pieces? Can you become invisible or read people’s minds? Do you carry nifty gadgets to help you, or do you drive a really cool vehicle that puts Ferrari to shame?
In blogging, a Super Blogger should have some skills to make his/her blog extra ordinary. If you don’t have one, your blog would be just like any other Minah, Mei Mei and Minachi’s blog out there. There’s nothing wrong about that, but then, your blog would be…ordinary.
I’m not talking about super-skills here – ability to draw landscape scenery, or write killer poems – just a simple ability that you may already have!
What skills am I talking about?
- You hate writing long blog postings, but your short stories are very interesting, so people don’t mind that your posting include just 5 sentences.
- You write in rojak or Manglish, but you’re so funny so people don’t get too distracted by your rojakness. In fact, they might like your rojak style even more!
- You don’t have original ideas, but even when you link an article that’s not yours, you are still able to review or share your unique views in an interesting way
- You are too lazy to write anything, but your pictures are gorgeous and you let them tell your stories
- You think you’re not good enough to have an English blog, yet when you write in BM, your posting is more interesting than some who chooses to write in English
- You don’t prefer to share your personal feelings through your blog, but the information and facts that you shared has helped a lot of people to gain more knowledge
So, do you have the skills to be a Super Blogger?
DO YOU PERFORM HEROIC DEEDS?
Superheroes protect the good, and fight the evil. That is sort off the basic calling for superheroes, their sole job-description. They provide this community service and vow to help others in need.
For bloggers to be part of a community service effort and be a Super Blogger, you can
- Share experiences that help other people who are in the same situations as you are
- Share tips that are useful
- Share facts and figures to inform others
- Bestow wisdom to new moms or soon-to-be mommies through your stories and daily activities
- Run contests to color the blogosphere and stir the creative juices of other bloggers
- Blog-hop, follow a blog or leave comments to share your thoughts, interact with other bloggers, and at the same time expanding your circle of blogger friends
- Run an online business to make it easy for mommies to find a good diaper cloth or nursing wear, without having to go to an actual shop
DO YOU HAVE A SECRET IDENTITY?
Superheroes all have secret identity; their alter ego which represents themselves in the real world to protect them from criminals.
Super Bloggers should have some sort of secrecy in their blogging identity as well. Do not reveal everything in your blog such as home address, telephone number or other personal information that can be used against you.

DO YOU HAVE A COOL COSTUME?
Be it purple spandex cape, green speedos or red underwear on the outside – a costume maketh the superhero! We all recognize Superman by his red-blue-yellow costume, and Batman by his all-black leather costume with the yellow bat. If Superman wears green, he’s not Superman!
And when we see a completely purple layout, we know the Super Blogger is Little Mama! Super Bloggers have a cool layout, one that spells you. Make it colorful, make it in shades of your favorite blue or make it blank – but make it YOU!
When I first started blogging, my layout was completely yellow, with funny writings on a post-it, and a few of my favorite pictures of my Abah and sisters, and my husband and kiddos. I LOVE the fact that some good friends of mine who saw the layout immediately say that the layout is so bright, cheery and funny that it has ME all over it!
DO YOU HAVE A SIDEKICK?
What are superheroes without their trusted helpers or sidekicks? Batman has Robin, and Ben10 has Gwen! These sidekicks have an equally extraordinary skills to complement the superhero when in need.
In the bloghosphere, your other blogger friends are your ‘sidekicks’. As a Super Blogger, you must visit other blogs, and perhaps say hi – leave a comment!
- They help you gain information on all sorts of issues through their postings
- They inspire you on how to blog well
- Other blogs might open your mind about the possibility in a blogging world – that you can gain money from online advertisement, that you can run a business through blogs, and that you can gain a lot of new friends just through the comment sections
- Their postings may spark some ideas for your own blog postings
- By inspecting many blogs, you may stumble upon a few good ideas on blogging to come up with your own personal way to blog
- Even if you stumble upon a not-so-good blog, you can still learn a thing or two of what you shouldn’t do in blogging!
DO YOU FIGHT EVIL SUPER VILLAINS?
Superheroes protect the good, and fight evil. Usually there will be one great nemesis that always stirs up trouble for the superhero. Constantly concocting plans to conquer the world or get rid of the superhero. Spiderman defeats the Green Goblin while our local hero Cicakman fights Professor Klon!
A Super Blogger may stumble upon insensitive bloggers, or discouraging comments throughout his/her blogging experience, comments that put them down or criticize their content.
- When you feel down after a discouraging comment, reflect on what is said, and move on. You can’t possibly please everybody!
- When someone criticizes your content, don’t immediately lash back – consider what is being commented on, and see whether you agree or disagree
- Consider the quality of a criticizing comment – If it’s a positive critic, take it in stride and try to improve
- If a comment is downright rude and unpleasant, don’t bother replying – other bloggers will know and ignore him/her too
- If a comment pointed out an error in the info posted in your blog, do apologize, thank the blogger and fix your mistake
Your ‘villains’ in blogging are not just other bloggers who might criticize you – time, your screaming kids, the demands of work and lack of ideas can also be villanous challenges in blogging. A Super Blogger must think smart on how to overcome these challenges!
So you run out of ideas? If you’re a living, breathing being – you already have a story to write. From the moment you wake out of bed, to the moment you think of life or do a muhasabah diri before sleeping – you always have something to write about. Think about that!
DO YOU HAVE A PERSONAL MOTIVATION?
Superheros are not paid, nor been given any sort of recognition for their life-saving efforts. They have secret identity and saves life selfishly without expecting anything in return. Their motivation to keep on making the world a better place is simply self-satisfaction in helping others in need.
A Super Blogger knows his/her motivations for blogging – the main reason that kept him/her going. Know your motivation in blogging. What makes you tick? What moves you on and on, day after day to continue blogging?
- Is it for money?
- To keep account of your baby’s growth and progress?
- To express your feelings?
- A daily account of your life?
- A place to share your passion for photography?
- As a base for your online business?
- To share information and tips?
- To make new friends?
Remember your own personal motivations. With it in mind, you’ll never get tired of blogging!
So, after considering these questions – are you a Super Blogger? Or perhaps half-way there?
If you have great passion in writing, skills to pull out great contents, have a fantastic looking layout, have selfless urge to help others through experience and info-sharing while fighting discouraging comments, possess strong motivation to keep on blogging while still keep your personal informations at bay, at the same time making tons of new blogger-friends -
- then my dear, you are a Super Blogger!
