Congratulation.. You Won USD1,000,000!
If you’re a Yahoo, Gmail or Hotmail user, you would probably receive some emails with the title above. What do feel when you first received an email like this?
Excited? Thrilled because you just become a millionaire?
Hey! Hold on to your horses. Don’t be too excited because this kind of emails are spams. It’s a trick to get you paying some money without getting anything.
A few years ago, a friend was very excited and happy receiving an email saying that she won a lottery amounting to USD1,000,000. She replied to the email which requested personal particulars. The person behind the email then wrote saying that a cheque on her name was ready to be sent. But, she must pay an amount for the courier service first. What did she do? Did she get one million dollar and quit her job? I will tell more after this.
Let’s see what happens when you replied to the email. The picture below showed one of the email that I received. It’s from info[at]lottery.com saying I won a GBP 1,000,0000. Wow… one million pound sterling! That’s easily converted to six million ringgit! With that amount of money, I can quit my job and enjoy life, ha..ha…ha.

I was asked to contact the claim department and supplied my personal particulars. The weird thing is eventhough the email comes from lottery.com but the claim department is an hotmail address. See how they’re tricking you?

I replied and provided some fake information. Minah Rempit was my bogus name…he..he..he

The so-called claim department replied saying they have process my payment and my cheque is ready. But, I need to contact a Swift Courier company which is supposed to be a UK & Worldwide Parcel Delivery & Courier Services company. Again, why a company handling million dollar check use a free email account at live.com?

They asked me to bank in GBP 300 as a courier charges to deliver the one million pound sterling cheque to me. 300 pound sterling equals to around 1,800 ringgit. A very expensive courier charge for an obviously light weight cheque, huh?

Did I pay? Of course not!
My friend almost pay the requested so called delivery payment. But, I stopped her. Luckily, she listened to me. Else, she would lost a thousand ringgit for nothing.
You see, if a person get tricked and pay, the scammer would get easy money of GBP 300. What if thousands of people did the same? The scammer would become rich in an instant!
So, beware. Internet is a place where cheaters are lurking to trick innocent people. I got this kind of lottery scams a lot these day. Just think before you act, okey?

my suggestion, if u wanna register for any mailing list/mail subscription, use only 1 account, and create another account for personal/formal emails. so that tak adalah serabut dalam mailbox yang penting. biar je dia penuh dalam mailbox eksklusif tu.
sometimes kalau kita subcribe apa2.. usually email akan masuk dalam scam list. ntah ke mana2 dia jual.
same goes with our telephone number… ada2 je yg call offer ‘kad VIP for pengguna CC yang setia’.

betul tu lyna.. that’s a good way to avoid the spams.. and sometimes spammer ni pasang spam bot yang search website/blog for email address.. tu yg kena hati2 kalau nak tulis email address dalam blog or forum posting

as for me mmg hari2 dapat emel camni..2-3 kadang2 dalam sehari..tapi nasib baik la mmg jenis check emel hari2..so xde la penuh inbox tu ngan spam2 yang ntah ape2 ni…
another type of spam is the emel from burkina faso or somewhere from africa..sometimes an heiress yg mak ayah dah meninggal, pakcik nk makan duit la..ade yg peguam with client sgt kaye duit juta2 yg dah mati accident la..then nak kita tolong dier transferkan duit tu ke camne ntah..nk bagi percent laa..
and ada lagi satu..yg local bank i.e maybank, cimb. an email telling that they suffered from a d-dos attack (virus kot) pastu nk kita confirmkan account kita..they request our username password and tac no..kalau sesape yang tertipu tu mmg lesap la semua duit dalam bank.
