Balik kampung: Drive home, drive safely
In about two weeks time, it will be time for Aidil Fitri. It will be time of celebration and balik kampung. Well, we are no exception. For husband and wife who shares home town , it is such a bonus to them since they can spend first day of Aidil Fitri in both places. As for me and others whose hometown is halfway of Peninsular Malaysia, most chosen to drive home. Eventhough we can opt for taking flight, since there is so many things to be packed along, so the choice of driving is more…
2Sep2010 | catlina | 9 comments | ContinuedThe “perfect” Ramadhan buffet
It’s the middle of Ramadhan already (how fast time flies). I have yet to have iftar (breaking of fast) at a restaurant or buffet. To be quite honest, having iftar outside is quite a daunting task with 3 small children in tow. So I have decided to only go when necessary (or when the right people ask- closest of friends only).
Unless of course I can find a place that can fullfill my Iftar wish-list:
- Halal- No doubt. No compromises.
- Must have a proper and comfortable ‘surau’ – of adequate size, with a

For us ladies who are working and have to juggle between working and house chores, it is kind of hard to prepare a good healthy food for the family to have during Iftar. So we normally end up buying food from the bazaar or eat out. Today I’m going to share some useful tips that may help lessen your work for food preparation during this fasting month:
1. Blend your ingredients
During weekend, you can prepare your cooking ingredients for the whole week. For cooking essentials like shallots, dried chillies, garlic you can blend everything and keep the paste in…

During Ramadhan, please….
1.Don’t waste
There are a LOT, yes a LOT and PLENTY of yummy food and delicacies in Ramadhan Bazaar. Since we are buying with an empty stomach, we tend to buy more than we can eat. Finally after we break our fast, most of the food left uneaten and become a waste , which finally to be thrown away.
Hotels will have plenty of break fast packages which costs a fortune to whom are not lucky as us. If possible, do not indulge in buffet packages like this. Ramadhan…
18Aug2010 | catlina | 15 comments | ContinuedCreating little bookworms
Call me a bookworm (I don’t mind, really). I love reading books and have loved doing so since I was very young. I could read at age 4 and used to love reading all those picture books and fairy tales. My first grown-up book was The Count of Monte Cristo which I read (first time) at the age of seven. I drove my parents crazy because I kept asking the meaning of unfamiliar words, so much so that they gave me my own dictionary to look up the definitions myself. In the end I learned to skim over those words…

Parents have the innate ability to worry more about their child than themselves. A perfect example is the constant anxiety that our children are not getting enough vitamins and nutrients. That primal instinct is the driving force behind the billion ringgit food supplement industry.
There are countless options on the market that boast multitudes of benefits of every aspect of the child’s development, so much so that parents who don’t hop onto the bandwagon feel like they are depriving their children, some even think that by not giving them extra nutrition, they are in fact putting their child at risk.…

Hi folks,
Sometimes it’s nice to have a “different” routine once in a while isn’t it? A break-away from the usual monotonous routine to get us feeling excited, being creative and adventurous once more.
Normally over the weekend, my family is filled with events to attend, in-law or parents house to visit, shopping malls to go to. Then it happened that one weekend, our car has to be sent to the workshop for two days for major repair.
So instead of lamenting the things that we couldn’t possibly do on “car-less” day, I plan and prepare for the weekend.
We…
8Aug2010 | alohamolly | 3 comments | ContinuedDevelopmental milestones: I’m on a schedule, Ummi!
He grew up too fast. My eldest son, Yousof, started walking at age 9 months and started talking at 11 months. At the time I was a houseman at probably the busiest hospital in the country (Hospital Sultanah Aminah, JB). I practically missed it since I was out of the house at the crack of dawn and back after he had already gone to sleep (not counting the many on calls that meant I was away from him days at a time). Each time I caught a breath it seemed as if he was able to do something…
