I have always had reservations about having a full-time, live in maid since I am essentially a very private person. However, as with all things in life, situations change. Currently as a working, full-time, single mom to three children under the age of six, I had to admit that I could not do everything myself.

My biggest concerns were the kids, of course. I worry for their safety. How would a foreign maid interact with them? We have all seen the horror youtube clips of maids abusing children under their care. The second issue was trust, how trust-worthy are these …

Shock! Horror! My little princess was sent home today due to (wait for it…) LICE! I was devastated. How could I have missed the signs? Actually with my little girl it was easy to miss because she has eczema, an itchy skin condition that causes her to scratch often. So when the scratching was for a different reason, I totally missed the boat. Inexcusable, I know, but I am only human.

Anyway, now, we are all stuck at home trying to rid her of this infestation due to the kindergarten “No nits” policy. Rightly so, because those little creatures are …

I am sure many of us would have heard this famous sayings,”Monkey see, Monkey Do”.

Monkey see, monkey do is a saying that originated in Jamaica in the early 18th century and popped up in American culture in the early 1920s. The saying refers to the learning of a process without an understanding of why it works. Another definition implies the act ofmimicry, usually with limited knowledge of the consequences.

Hi folks!

Parenting is such a lifelong learning experience. At every point of their life, we are learning a lot.

Taking care a newborn, tending to toddlerhood, juggling with weaning, potty-training, preparing solid food, choosing a babysitter, a nursery, a school, a college and a university. How about getting to know their new friends, their girlfriend or boyfriend and next learning to communicate and mingle with our daughter or son-in-law.

There are many scenarios which we are learning.

Below are some of the incidents which makes me think and wonder, ” How should I react?”

Hi folks!

Have you ever heard that Life is like a 100m dash? Or do you feel like is like a marathon? I used to be a runner during my school days and this quote really strikes me; even now as a parent.

Why life is said to be like a 100m dash? If you have seen how the sprinter like Carl Lewis or our local sprinter hero, Datuk Dr M “The Flying Doctor” Jegathesan, training for hours everyday just to be able to perform the “dash” in the 100m track and field event, you would understand how life is …

Time is precious. Every parent would know that. In fact everyone should know this fact. It is whether or not we acknowledge this fact and take action to priorities our life or we simply ignore it.

I wonder if anyone of you experience this. You received an invitation to a gathering with your friends whom you have not met for sometime. You very much wanted to make this event happened and made all the necessary arrangement, i.e. babysitting arrangement, seeking “approval” from dearest partner, pre-cooked meals in the fridge/thermal pot, etc. And then, prior to the big day, …

When I was very much younger, I enjoyed running around with my friends as much as the next kid but I was completely useless at organized sports.
My kids were down with Hand Food Mouth Disease(HFMD) again in mid-September 2010. They have had it in year 2009. So this is the second time they had to battle with HFM.

Obviously I am devastated that they caught it again. But I also learnt a lot from it.

I always believe that knowing the disease well is good so that we can be more well-prepared; physically and mentally to win the battle.

After the first HFMD battle in year 2009, when they caught it the second time, I am more cautious and observant on the symptoms.
