I have always had reservations about having a full-time, live in maid since I am essentially a very private person. However, as with all things in life, situations change. Currently as a working, full-time, single mom to three children under the age of six, I had to admit that I could not do everything myself.

My biggest concerns were the kids, of course. I worry for their safety. How would a foreign maid interact with them? We have all seen the horror youtube clips of maids abusing children under their care. The second issue was trust, how trust-worthy are these …

Shock! Horror! My little princess was sent home today due to (wait for it…) LICE! I was devastated. How could I have missed the signs? Actually with my little girl it was easy to miss because she has eczema, an itchy skin condition that causes her to scratch often. So when the scratching was for a different reason, I totally missed the boat. Inexcusable, I know, but I am only human.

I am sure many of us would have heard this famous sayings,”Monkey see, Monkey Do”.

Monkey see, monkey do is a saying that originated in Jamaica in the early 18th century and popped up in American culture in the early 1920s. The saying refers to the learning of a process without an understanding of why it works. Another definition implies the act ofmimicry, usually with limited knowledge of the consequences.

Hi folks!

Parenting is such a lifelong learning experience. At every point of their life, we are learning a lot.

Taking care a newborn, tending to toddlerhood, juggling with weaning, potty-training, preparing solid food, choosing a babysitter, a nursery, a school, a college and a university. How about getting to know their new friends, their girlfriend or boyfriend and next learning to communicate and mingle with our daughter or son-in-law.

There are many scenarios which we are learning.

Below are some of the incidents which makes me think and wonder, ” How should I react?”

When I was very much younger, I enjoyed running around with my friends as much as the next kid but I was completely useless at organized sports. The only sport at which I was passable at was badminton. Personally, I blame it on poor hand eye co-ordination, which basically is a polite term for being a total klutz.

One of my favourite television shows at the moment is a reality cooking show that features kids between the ages of 8-12 battling it out ..in the kitchen! Amazingly, these kids cook restaurant worthy dishes even under pressure.

Considering the fact that their skill must be from countless happy hours spent with their mom’s in the kitchen, it made me totally re-think my view about not having the kids in the kitchen. The only thing is, I still think that the kitchen is an accident prone zone and having children underfoot can be dangerous.

Most would felt that parenthood does have its share of sacrifices to make. Along the way, we also pick up a lot of treasures. Some of them are as follows:

Travelling with small children can be a very stressful ordeal for parents. Kids as we all know are not really made for sitting quitely in confined spaces for any period of time. Therefore it is up to us, the adults to make sure that everyone survives the journey intact (body & mind..hehe).

Thinking of memories, what comes into your mind immediately?

Childhood memories? University life? Working, wedding, childbirth?

Memories comes when we experience something which carries weight in our mind, our emotion, our body perhaps.

Think of the time we first ride a bicycle, when we first started dating, our first childbirth, etc. These are experiences that carry weight in our mind.

What kind of memories are we facilitating in our child’s learning experiences?

Is it filled of fun, laughter and cheers? Or is it full of fear, threats and disappointment?
