ContengHidup – Blog Review

Conteng-Conteng Hidup is the tagline that greeted me when I checked ContengHidup for this review. The header is considered very huge and is decorated with pictures of the owner’s kids.

The owner used a blog template named Pinki by OurBlogTemplates.com. The blog layout is a 3-columned with two sidebars on the right. On the middle sidebar, there are a Twitter updates widget, some banners, recent comments, archive, labels, live traffic feed, a shoutbox and link to favorite blogs, whereas on the right sidebar, there are top commentators and more link to favorite blogs.

The background is pink stripes with orange flowers. While the content background is white with black text. The owner has made a wise decision to stick with white. You see, white is the choiced color of most of successful websites like Google and Yahoo (just to name a few). If you don’t like white and want to add some colors to your blog’s background, go for soft pastel colors.

Content wise, the owner is not updating her blog regularly. The owner writes mostly about her child, family, personal life and things that circle aorund her life. All blog posts are also accompanied by relevant pictures, and more than one in most cases which adds to the interest and appeal of the blog.

I’m giving this blog 3 star rating out of 5. This blog gets average for content, activity and appearance. While uniqueness and appearance scores below average.

Here’s a suggestion of things that I think the ownner could do.

• The owner could consider creating a new, smaller header (small refer to the height). The existing header is really big and takes so much space on the blog. The reasons why I always go for smaller header are because smaller header graphic load faster, and give more spaces to other things like navigation bars and part of content to be seen directly when someone go to your blog (without having to scroll down).
• The navigation could be improved by moving the archive (cerita dolu-dolu) and labels to the top of the sidebars. This would be very helpful for first-time readers to find what the blog is about.
• To improve the content and uniqueness, the owner could consider adding more useful contents on subjects that she knows best. Perhaps some useful tips and tutorials on something?
