I was looking at a picture of a rainbow my sister sent me – and I thought of how it refers to the sentiment of our blog contents. Well, just for fun, let’s see what kind of blogger are you…
YELLOW
Yellow is my favorite color. Happy, cheery and fun!
If you are a Yellow-Blogger, you always find yourself wanting to blog about something simple, and that would make people laugh. Something that’s light to the mind, and easy on the eyes. Even about what kind of cereal you eat for breakfast!
Shakespeare wrote, “brevity is the soul of wit’ – so keep your funny anecdotes short and simple. Too long, and readers might lose track of what exactly is funny with your story!
- Mostly on your kids’ idiosyncracies and mischiefs – kids say the darnest thing, you know!
- An amusing incident in your daily life – like you cook a lauk that was too salty, or when you’re absent-minded about something, or when your husband forgot to wear socks to work!
- A laughable moment at work.
- A hillarious joke that was forwarded to you.
- A funny news you saw or heard on tv, or something you read in the papers.
- If you’re dry out of ideas for a blog post, a simple, funny posting is always the best bet.
RED
Red is usually associated with romance or anger. Either way they both are very intense, strong feelings. Whatever you write, you write with passion, drama, full of expression of feelings. You don’t mind being an open book to the public.
Rose Red – The Romantic Red
Blog posts about romance is always my favorite. I’ll go aww and waa reading tales of sweet surrenders and endless love, of meaningful gestures and cute quotes. And call me a hopeless romantic but sometimes they make me a little teary-eyed!
You’re a Rose-Red-Blogger (yes, I’m proud to admit I’m ONE!) who enjoys puting their partner on a pedestal, pouring heartfelt i-love-you-s and bouquets of adoration in your entries. I say this because some people are too shy to write publicly about their love and romantic feelings despite being married for more than 10 years!
You don’t need a whole romantic-novels-length to tell someone how special he or she is. You can even slide it in with a posting about something not directly related to romance – like your husband’s support during your labor pain, or the time he cooks for you when you’re sick – this spells ‘love’ too!
But careful not to overdo it! I find teen blogs fall into love-blogs hard and tend to expose every intimate detail of their relationship – some things are best kept private… *wink wink*
Blood Red – The Anger Red
You’re not necessarily a grumpy person, but if you are a Blood-Red-Blogger, you tend to blog about things you find wrong with the world. Always something that made your blood go upstairs! A makcik cut you off as you line up at the bank. A rude waiter. A salesperson who did not attend to you just because you wear ‘japanese’ slippers as opposed to 4-inch Jimmy Choos.
The examples above are okay to write about once in a while because you’re just venting out frustrations to be shared. Unfortunately, there are some Blood-Red-Bloggers who take things over the line – I once surfed a blog where this teacher has postings upon postings about how work is piling up in school, and how he or she hates working on weekends, and having to stay-back. The teacher even bad-mouthed the principal! Hmm, wonder if he or she is still a teacher at that school…
You can be this kind of blogger some of the time, but don’t make it your niche. If not, you find yourself always having hate-postings. You might find your comments column bursting with words encouraging your ‘hate’ or supporting your ‘hatred’ – because they might have experienced it too, but too often and you’ll breed a host of hate-bloggers who flock your blog because they ‘enjoy’ being mad at something!
If you do blog about a frustrating event :
- Describe the incident thoroughly, and try not to be too bias!
- Give reasons for your dissatisfaction or frustration
- Discuss why the situation happened while trying to understand the other party’s behaviour (like cashier’s sour face maybe because of a row with boyfriend!)
- Suggests ways for the other party to improve/handle the situation differently
- This way you not only write angry words simply to be angry, but you’re sharing your experience, as example for others that might encounter the same situation, and educate those who might once be on the other side of the problem!
GREEN
Green goes without saying – nature, outdoor, fresh and free. Postings about outdoor activities are interesting especially when they’re accompanied with tons of pictures. Readers would want to see the surrounding scenery, the ambiance, and the landscape.
You are a Green-Blogger when you’re a very outdoor-sy person, or takes pleasure in sharing your love for nature. You love taking pictures of scenery, with or without you in it!
In your blogposts you share about your travels to other worlds and beyond. Not only out to other places like parks and beaches, but right down to your own backyard where you do gardening!
Green-Bloggers, when you blog, please describe your travels with some details, something that would help future travellers to the same place, and would entice someone who hasn’t made up his or her mind where to go on that honeymoon!
- Transportation – What did you take (plane, boat, by car?) How much was the fare and how far is it from the city center or from your house
- Accomodation – Where and why that hotel/chalet/resort, description of the reception, decor and view, also add the website if available
- Tourist attraction, how far is it from the hotel you’re staying at, and if there’s any entrance fee
- Food! (My favorite part!)
- …and remember, lots and lots of travel pictures!
* Attention to Little Mama who will be going on a fun vacation to Hong Kong, Disneyland! Hihi.
BLUE
Calm, like the water – but also ever-flowing, and like Pocahontas say in the Disney animated movie, “You will never step into the same river twice” – because the water is always moving and flowing.
You’re a Blue-Blogger when you tend to write your postings like a diary – a day-to-day report on your life and the people around you. Your postings flow like the passing year and each posting is related to the previous and the next.
New mommies are usually Blue-Bloggers, when they write about their newborns – ‘Baby Mimi Day One’, ‘Baby Mimi Day Three’, ‘Baby Mimi Day 33′ – and so on! There’s nothing wrong about writing a daily account of your baby’s growth but :
Please vary the details. You couldn’t possibly have interesting postings when you write about exactly the same things daily – ‘Today the baby kept me up all night. So tired.’ ‘Today my baby still doesn’t want to sleep even after feeding. So sleepy.’ ‘Today my baby wants to play after feeding at 3am. So restless!’ – Even I am tired reading the same thing over and over again!
You can still have ‘different postings’ while writing about the same thing, if you do it right!
So you want to write about how the baby kept you awake all night?
- First, describe the baby’s condition – crying, wailing, just want to play, or simply wide-eye awake without making noise
- In the next posting, write about how you overcome the prob and put your baby back to sleep
- The next posting, write about your baby’s progress
- Subsequently, share the different approaches you use in pacifying the baby
- Next posting perhaps on how you cope with the next day at work after being awake all night
- The day after, you can post on your husband’s involvement and help in all this
See, it can be on the same topic for 6 days in a row – but when you twist it differently each time, each posting will be as interesting as the next, as well as informative!
PURPLE
Purple is a color of magic and mystery. It is also royal color. Wealth. Property.
Do you make money through blogging? Then you’re a Purple-Blogger! Selling beautiful pashminas online, yummy cupcakes or offering photography services to those interested and many more online business!
Good luck, and have fun while making money, all you Purple-Bloggers!
BLACK
Mourning. Deppression. Sadness. But clothes-wise I love the color – makes me appear thinner! hihi.
However, I hope you’re not a Black-Blogger! A blogger who puts down him or herself in their own blog! Drowning themselves in self-pity, hoping life would treat them better instead of looking at the brighter side of life. This type of blogger also wonders why his or her life is not better than others, and tend to write sympathetic messages in their posts – like, “Don’t I deserve happiness..” or “Don’t I have talents that I could be proud of?”
Let go of your self-pity. Be confident this 2010. Everyone has something great to offer, and tons to be grateful for! Rise and shine, people! Don’t rise and whine! *wink*!
PINK
The most romantic color, pink, also very much associated with femininity and sweetness.
Are you a Pink-Blogger? A blogger who writes feminine-influenced posts – either fashion, make-up and skin/body/hair-care or feminine issues like motherhood, women’s right at a working place, or wife abuse. It could also be feminine health-care like PMS, breastfeeding or how to buy a well-fitting bra!
I don’t usually write ‘pink’ issues, but I enjoy reading them!
- Write an issue close to your heart – like adventures of a WAHM, or a SAHM
- Write from your heart – from a woman to a woman (or for a man trying to understand women!)
- Add links of interesting websites discussing the same issues that you’re blogging about
- After you read an article by a professional writer, try to simplify the words (even in your own slang or language) so that your readers may understand the content or the message of the article better
- Get the readers involved – ask for opinion, or start a debate (it’s great bait for comments!)
BROWN
Brown is similar to wood, or leather. Dark. Firm. Manly. Masculine – Yeah, you would think it’s blue, right?
If you’re not a Pink-Blogger, maybe you are a Brown-Blogger? Pink is for female, while brown is for the male! Any blogger you know writes mainly on male-dominated issues? Pfft. I’ll start with one topic – politics. And I’ll stop there!
Maybe fellow mombloggers contributors Ustaz Cahaya and Eyriqazz can enlighten us on more masculine issues, like sports and superbikes? – or am I stereotyping! *smile*
But don’t be surprise if female can be as good in being a Brown-Blogger. Women bloggers can write about men, from a female point of view, which can be a really great ‘referance book’ for men out there!
ORANGE
Orange is a combo of the energetic red, and the happy yellow. It represents enthusiasm and fascination.
The Orange-Blogger writes about their hobbies, their passion, their likes. The posting lights up with their enthusiastic words and descriptions about what they like to do – sewing, collecting diaper cloth, paint-ball, cinema watching, bowling or trying out new recipes.
Orange gives the sensation of heat, because it’s also the color of fire – but that’s how you get, don’t you – when you’re talking about your passions and likes – you’re on fire!
- Think about the most unique passion that you have – like collecting hari raya packets, kayaking, or having iguanas as pets, or growing your own vegetable patch!
- When did the passion start?
- Why do you enjoy it?
- Who usually joins you in this passion of yours?
- Include other details by answering more WH questions – like where to enroll for kayak lessons, or which is your most expensive fridge magnets, where do you keep your bookmarks collection, or where do you go weekly for your baking class – the list is endless.
- The key is to keep people interested with your passion, and to keep people informed!
I am a collector. I collect tissue/paper napkins/serviettes from cafes and restaurants. I also collect drink stirrer. And maps to theme parks. Bookmarks. Also theater tickets and program booklets. And I collect memorabillia and comics from The X-Files. Oh, and also cute, colorful lanyard. Anyone share my passions?
WHITE
Purity, honesty and innocence. Advise, tips and guide. You seek to educate your readers.
If you fancy writing religious and motivational articles in your blog, then you’re a White-Blogger. These bloggers writes to inform and enlighten their readers with their religious blog posts. Motivational White-Bloggers touch readers’ heart with their inspirational stories and tales in their postings.
I personally enjoy religious articles that not only quote from the Holy Quran, but especially those that have examples from stories of the times of the prophets. This makes understanding easier, and also enjoyable.
RAINBOW
Now we come to my favorite kind of blogger – the Rainbow-Blogger! Because this is ME! hihi.
A Rainbow-Blogger can’t decide the color he or she wants to be, so decides to incorporate all colors in his or her blog! It’s not necessarily a good thing, because there’s no particular niche to focus on, and not specific subject to prioritize.
However, trying out all sorts of topics may eventually land you a niche, and in the process learn to be jack-of-all-trades – being able to write all sorts of subjects under the sun before hitting on the one he or she is best at!
WHICH COLOR-BLOGGER ARE YOU?
So which one are you? The self-pitying Black-Blogger, or the hippity hoppity happy Yellow-Blogger? Or perhaps macho Brown-Blogger or a feminists fighter Pink-Blogger?
Or hey – you could be a combination of two or more colors! Are you an angry Blood-Red-Blogger who wants to seek calm and peace as a White-Blogger too? Or are you a sweet, loving Red-Blogger who enjoys writing on feminine issues as the Pink Blogger?
Whatever your color is, make it bright and shiny, may it color your blogging world as beautiful as it should! Happy coloring, from one of the Rainbow-Bloggers in MBP!
